Klim TK1200 Product Description
The Klim TK1200 Modular Helmet is Klim’s answer for riders looking to complete their premium touring outfit. The helmet, with its full carbon fiber shell and attention to detail ensures the helmet will be incredibly light weight and comfortable while riding. To let you fully focus on the road, the Klim TK-1200 even comes with a Transitions photochromic visor so that you no longer need to keep sliding your internal sun visor up or down.
With it’s premium focus, the Klim helmet will be competing with the AGV Sportmodular, Shoei Neotec 2, Shark Evo-GT, HJC RPHA-90 S Carbon, X-lite X-1005 Ultra Carbon, and the Schuberth C4 Pro (Carbon).
Material
The outer shell of the TK1200 uses Klim’s unique heat-polymerized pre-impregnated carbon fiber weave. Like Schuberth’s Direct Fiber Processing method for producing premium-quality fiberglass shells, Klim’s approach ensures a higher-quality shell construction and greater consistency. Following from the high-quality shell, the Klim motorcycle helmet will be incredibly light and strong with a similar weight to some full-face helmets.
To open the chin bar, Klim have opted for a single button underneath the chin vent to make two handed operation easier. This is a break away chin bar designed to reduce the force upon the head and neck in the event of a crash. The helmet comes in only one outer shell size and is both DOT and ECE 22.05 certified.
Ventilation
The ventilation of the Klim TK 1200 Helmet has been designed to keep you cool during long touring rides. This means that there is an adjustable chin vent just underneath the visor with 3 additional grilles for more airflow. The switch controls these grilles and it offers 3 different positions. In the forehead, there is another adjustable vent designed to bring air to the top of your head. Lastly, there is an exhaust in the back of the helmet to allow hot air to escape.
Visor
The visor of the TK1200 is among one of the areas where Klim have both cut down on weight and added a clever bit of innovation. Instead of going with the drop-down sun visor route that most modular touring helmets follow, Klim have opted for skipping this in favor of a Transitions shield. This means that the tint of the visor will change according to the level of light hitting the visor, which means you always have the right level of tint.
The visor comes with a large tab in the center to make opening it easy even with gloves, and it supports a cracked city position.
The helmet’s Photochromic face shield is a Pinlock prepared visor with the anti-fog insert provided in the box. To replace the visor, Klim have added their on take on a quick release system to make switching visors fast and easy.
Liner
The liner of the Klim TK1200 is another area where they have left their premium mark. The liner is a fully removable, washable, and moisture wicking 3D comfort liner. The helmet also comes with speaker pockets for a communication system and glasses grooves by the cheek pads to prevent the temples from causing uncomfortable pressure points. Thanks to the engineered aero acoustics and neck roll, the helmet will continue to be stable at high speed while still offering decent wind noise isolation, especially with the included chin curtain.
Lastly, the helmet uses a quick release micro-metric buckle chin strap with a large tab to make opening even easier.
Summary
Though Klim are not as well known for their modular helmets as Schuberth or Shoei, the Klim TK1200 ticks all the boxes for a premium touring helmet. Not only is it very lightweight, but it also comes fully prepared for the sun with its Transitions face shield and comes with a safety-focused construction.
