HJC I-90 Modular Helmet

The HJC I-90 Modular Helmet is the newest addition to the affordable I-line from HJC. The HJC I90 is actually the little brother of the premium and brand new HJC RPHA-90 S Modular Helmet. Both Modular helmets are located respectively at the top and bottom of the Touring Helmets segment. HJC already had the budget full-face helmet HJC I-70 and is now expanding this budget line with a very affordable modular helmet. The HJC I-90 Flip-Up Helmet gives you a particularly value and is ideally suited for the starting rider or the occasional good-weather rider. Remember that the budget models of the HJC range are still better than many of the helmets that are sold.

Shell

The I-90 has a shell made from polycarbonate. This material is particularly safe and is used more often with helmets in the entry-level range. This helmet offers you a great fit and is compact thanks to its 3 helmet shell sizes. It is nice if a helmet has multiple shell sizes, because you then have a more compact helmet that weighs less. A smaller helmet is also nicer to ride with and a compact shell looks better. The EPS inner shell consists of multi-density EPS which ensures optimum energy absorption. Simply put, it absorbs a possible impact much better. Advanced CAD technology was used to design the helmet. This means no unnecessary material is used and the helmet stays light without compromising on safety. HJC compensates this particularly well with, especially since Modular Helmets naturally have a weakness (the Flip-Up mechanism).

Ventilation

The ventilation is decent and even good if you consider the price. Thanks to the ACS ventilation system, the helmet offers an optimal airflow. These are the benefits that you can often only expect with helmets in premium segment. And ventilation is particularly something that should be well engineered, to keep your head nice and cool during those longer summer rides. The ventilation channels in the EPS shell do their job well. In the city the ventilation is a bit less, but on the highway the ventilation system works exceptionally well. The warm air moves through the internal air channels in the helmet and sucks all heat and moisture through the air outlets at the rear of the helmet.

Visor

The HJ-33 outer visor is anti-scratch, anti-UV and pinlock prepared. The pinlock lens comes included in the box. This is something you do not often see with the entry-level models, great job by HJC! The HJ33 visor has an optimal width and height for an even better sight. The visor closure has been updated and according to HJC it is more durable than its competitors. The visor is also available separately at Champion Helmets. The HJ-V9 Internal sun visor runs the entire width of the outside visor. This prevents the sun from bothering your eyes from any angle. The glove-friendly control button of the integrated sun visor is on the bottom left. Furthermore, the integrated sun visor is adjustable on 3 different positions and very user-friendly. The helmet is also equipped with the Rapidfire II visor mechanism. This mechanism makes it possible to change the visor easily and quickly without tools which is very user-friendly. Unfortunately, happens with other brands it sometimes that you your brand new smoke visor and start mounting the visor with a screw driver for example and then you suddenly have a damaged visor! With the smart visor mechanism of the I-90 you won’t happen.

Liner

The Supercool liner in the I-90 is removable, washable and antibacterial. The material absorbs moisture quickly and dries quickly. The cheek pads allow you to adjust the fit to your personal preference. The cheek pads fit in the different sizes of the helmet. Every head is different, which is why it is very nice that the cushions are adjustable, so that you can adjust the inner lining to your specific head shape. This helmet is suitable for people who wear glasses because space has been created in the lining for the temples of your glasses. This ensures that there is no pressure on the temples and therefore on the head. The people who wear glasses know exactly what this means and how nice it is that this has been taken into account. Furthermore, the helmet is prepared for a communication system. At HJC they have created space in the helmet where the communication system with can be concealed. This ensures that you as a rider see no parts of the intercom and that you are done with the installation in no time. HJC has now also developed its own communication system – the SMART HJC Bluetooth system. You will find this system in the product bundles at a nice discount.
